I can’t believe a whole year has passed already since I wrote my 2017 goals! Time has gone so quickly and as you may know from my recent post, I didn’t achieve every single one of my goals for 2017. But saying that, I did make a pretty good attempt and I think that’s the most important thing.
I think it’s healthy to have goals to work towards regardless of the time of year but the first of January always seems to be that little bit extra motivating. A new day, a new month and a new year all in one feels like the perfect time to start a fresh. Here are the things I’m hoping to achieve in 2018:
Regain my health
At the beginning of 2017 I vowed to “have fun with exercise”. But throughout the year my health began to deteriorate. I exercised less and less and my healthy diet went completely out of window. Even after I went vegan I continued to eat junk food a LOT of the time. I also struggled a bit with my mental health and ended 2017 feeling pretty gross and unhealthy.
My top priority for this year is to regain my health- physically, emotionally and mentally. I will be writing a few more posts about the changes and progress I make over the coming weeks/months.
Replace social media with something more positive
I waste ridiculous amounts of time scrolling through social media and it was a huge distraction for me in 2017. I deleted all of my social media accounts, forever, with the exception of my blog page on Facebook which I will be auto-sharing posts to. I plan to replace my social media scrolling with things that will add value to my life. Instead of checking Instagram or Facebook every 5 seconds I’ll be listening to podcasts, learning a new language (or trying to at least) and blogging.
Visit one new country
Surprise- Chloe wants to travel in 2018. I really don’t think my travel bug will ever die. I want to continue exploring the world while I still have the opportunity to and I’d like to visit so many countries but on my bucket list for 2018 is Italy, Portugal or India.
I want to declutter all aspects of my life this year. Not only physical things but also my finances, relationships and the like. I always feel that the more you have, the more you want. The opposite is also true.
My motto for this year is “create, don’t consume“. That means that instead of wasting time watching TV or keeping up to date with people’s lives through a screen, I will be making more of an effort to create things. I’ll still allow myself to just chill sometimes but I want the creative me to be present more often than the consumer in me.
Take up a new hobby
I want to try something I’ve never tried before and get really good at it.
Learn to have fun without alcohol
This kind of comes under the health category but I plan to give up alcohol for a long time if not forever. It’s been very detrimental to my mental (and physical) health in the past and over the last few months drinking, especially in large amounts, has become decreasingly appealing to me. I gave up drinking for a year in 2012 but I’d still go clubbing and just get buzzing on energy drinks instead of alcohol which is just as bad if not worse. This time I want to focus on doing more fun things that don’t involve alcohol at all. It’ll help me save money too!
Surround myself with positivity
They say that you’re the average of the people you consistently surround yourself with. And whilst I have a lot of positive relationships in my life, there are some that completely drain me. Yet I continue them out of obligation. I naturally sway to the pessimistic side of life so it can be really hard to not let other people’s negativity influence me sometimes. I want to just completely surround myself with positive people and positive environments.
Those are all the goals I have for 2018 so far but I’ll probably add more as I go, like I usually do. What are you hoping to achieve this year?
